Accounts Receivable Clerk

Our San Diego office is looking for an Accounts Receivable Clerk who thrives in a team environment. The Accounts Receivable Clerk performs the following duties:

  • Prepare daily cash deposits;
  • Enter cash receipts and update accounts receivable ledger by customer by using computerized accounting system;
  • File check stubs and bank receipts (deposits);
  • Process checks through bank website;
  • Research and process charge backs, credit memos and insufficient checks;
  • Prepare cover letters for copy center 3rd party job invoices and follow up for payment;
  • Process all invoice forwards;
  • Keep record of 3rd party settlement checks received and disburse to attorneys;
  • Assist with related special projects, as required.
  • Serves as back-up support in the following areas:
  • Obtain and mail / fax invoice copies for customer as requested;
  • Process credit card payments via desktop software program;
  • Prepare billing cover letters requested by Billing Specialist related to deductibles;
  • Obtain and mail (fax) invoice copies for customers, as requested;
  • Provide billing information to attorneys as requested (i.e. fees and costs & memo of costs);
  • Answer "general" accounts receivable phone inquiries and obtain credit card payment information as necessary;
  • Serves as third backup support to client conflict checks; and
  • Serves as third backup support to check requests


QUALIFICATIONS


One year certificate from college or technical school; or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the firm.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Capable of operating standard office equipment such as photocopy machines, fax machines, typewriter, calculator or adding machine. Basic knowledge of Windows-based personal computers. Working knowledge of computerized spreadsheet software such as Excel. Knowledge of Juris software or similar law firm software is a plus. Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and converse over the telephone. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to read fine print on contracts or other documents.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically assigned an individual desk, computer workstation, and phone within the accounting office. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
